News regarding the release date for the upcoming GUNDAM CARD GAME has finally been revealed, 3 months after the initial announcement. The new card game will be hitting store shelves on July 12, 2025 with 4 starter decks and several accessories, while the first booster set will trail a couple weeks behind on July 26, 2025.
The initial starter decks will come in 2 different flavors, a standalone version retailing at ¥1,320 and a GUNDAM ASSEMBLE version which includes a special token for ¥3,300. Branded sleeves, deck cases, counters, and dice will arrive alongside the decks.
The 4 starter decks each have their own theme:
The first booster set for the game is titled Newtype Rising and will include new cards based on Mobile Suit Gundam: Unicorn for players to incorporate into their decks and collect. Each pack will include 9 cards and will retail for ¥220. This pricing keeps it in line with most other card games in Japan, even beating out the actual value proposition of some more popular ones.
As mentioned previously, each of the starter decks will also be available in a limited edition version with a special GUNDAM ASSEMBLE token included. Each token appears to come on 3 runners and must be built and painted by the player. The curious thing is that in the early images shared by BANDAI, the bases on these tokens look different from those showed off in the announcement trailer for the miniature game itself. Given the proximity of the announcements, we'll have to wait and see what the final product looks like.
Of course this whole announcement is really exciting for fans who have been eagerly awaiting more info on the game, but there are some concerns from fans. Namely, how is BANDAI going to do at supporting so many card games at once, especially when demand starts to outpace supply. Some fans are have also expressed concern about this new release when BANDAI axed the popular GUNDAM WAR card game unceremoniously in 2018, after making very unpopular changes to its play style. That game only saw 3 sets released in English, where this will be available globally, but they're still things to keep in mind.
We'll just have to see when the product hits shelves in July. If you can't wait that long to get a taste, you can always seek out the limited beta box which dropped via Premium Bandai last month.
