Branded a "90s-style anime for a new era", the upcoming anime series Shinsei Galverse received its first trailer earlier today, highlighting the high-energy gal-fueled space adventure ahead of its June 25, 2025 premiere.
Directed by Ayaka Ohira, a self-taught animator with ties to the anime, music, and fashion industries, the release of Shinsei Galverse marks her directorial debut. The project, which was largely fan-funded, aims to blend 90s anime aesthetics with contemporary storytelling; the result being a high-impact, flashy narrative representation of different subcultures throughout Japan.
Ayako Ohira has recently been making waves with her eye-catching gal designs donning both Nike Shibuya through collaborative efforts, as well as a takeover at the LEVI'S Harajuku flagship store.
The story for Shinsei Galverse is as follows:
"Zero crash-lands on the war-torn planet Amatera with no memories and no idea who she is. Amidst a brutal conflict between the local resistance and the imperial Gevuran forces, she meets Ring, a charismatic young leader fighting to save the world. As Zero’s identity slowly awakens, she discovers she’s no ordinary girl—she’s a cosmic being known as Galverse, a key to something far greater than any one planet.
Shinsei Galverse is a high-energy, emotionally charged sci-fi anime inspired by the aesthetics and spirit of both 90s shoujo and sci-fi classics. It’s about struggle, pain, and love—and the power of the ‘gal’ mindset to overcome emotional turmoil and impossible odds."
Despite being a directorial debut, the series finds itself locked in with an all-star voice actor lineup including Yui Horie (Precure, Monogatari), Fairouz Ai (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, Dandadan, Chainsaw Man), Mutsumi Tamura (Sand Land, One Piece), Akio Otsuka (Ghost in the Shell, One Piece, Metal Gear Solid), Kotono Mitsuishi (Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion), and more.
The series' opening song, "KYOMEI VERSE♡" from ☆Taku Takahashi and KAMIYA, is a high-energy score fitting with the theme of the series, aiming to become a new-age gal anthem with its eurobeat sensibilities.
With less than two weeks until the original series begins streaming via YouTube on June 25, those interested in checking out further information on Shinsei Galverse can head over to the project's official website.
