Despite the ease of access that streaming has brought to the distribution of music, the volume that's released can make it a daunting task to find unique new stuff every week. In this recurring weekly feature we put together a short list of new songs that stand out amongst all the noise and deserve a spot in your rotation.

All songs featured in this recurring series can be found in our scrmbl selection 2025 playlist on Spotify or Apple Music.

Awesome City Club — "Run and Run"

Awesome City Club is a trio who has long been adept at creating feel good, uplifting songs and their latest is no exception. Lyrically it's a song about believing in yourself and moving forward. Musically it's fairly stripped down and unique compared to some of their other output, but the combination of a choice breakbeat and horn section just works. It's another winner from the trio in a string of singles released since the beginning of 2025.

m-flo loves Adee A. — "Reckless"

m-flo has been having a moment for the past year, and it's not just a result of their 25th anniversary. The group has released several strong singles since just about exactly a year ago at a pretty steady pace. Their latest, which also acts as the ending theme to the New PANTY and STOCKING with GARTERBELT anime series, is a standout with a strong vocal performance from loves collaborator Adee A. leading the track alongside VERBAL's trademark flow and a brilliantly executed backing track from producer ☆Taku Takahashi that transforms to perfectly compliment each phrase of the song. It's a perfect example of their ability to reinvent themselves from song to song, and reason to get excited for what they come up with next.

mei ehara — "Sad Driver"

There's no grander tradition in music than dealing with a bunch of heavy emotions while on the road. Japanese singer-songwriter mei ehara offers her entry into this canon with "Sad Driver," the first preview of forthcoming full length All About McGuffin. She's measured and crafting a midtempo groove over which she can flex her voice, starting nearly downtrodden before turning into something a touch more optimistic as she seeks escape. It makes for a great tension, perfect for a long trip down the highway. Listen above.

PUNPEE And BIM — "Macaroni Men"

The Iced Out EP largely finds the pair of PUNPEE and BIM in chill-out mode, but "Macaroni Men" manages to stand out by being the most laid back. It's also the duo at their most horned up — we've yet to sit down at scrmbl HQ to talk about standards and practices, so I'm not sure how much I can get into PUNPEE comparing certain parts of the human body to an ocean, but he does so like he's shooting the breeze with pals. It's a fun and frisky number carrying the air of earlier N.E.R.D. in its vibe. Listen above.

Trooper Salute — "Huji"

Nagoya outfit Trooper Salute delivered one of 2025's best songs to date with "Tenshi-chan," a tight number offering a funky groove, some room for weirdness and plenty of chances for the vocals to show their range. Newest number "Huji" presents a different side of the rising group. It's a slow-burning eight-plus minutes, with stretches of only piano melodies and skeletal melodies. It's a dramatic number in a way Trooper Salute have never been before, but the power of "Huji" comes from that same singing, here given more room to stretch out but as captivating as ever. Listen above.

XAMIYA — "FUTARI"

Genre-bending duo XAMIYA are targeting the dancefloor with their latest single, "FUTARI". Vocalist KAMIYA delivers a whipsy performance that dances on top of a backing track that would be perfectly at home with some of the best dance music tracks of the 2000s. It's a mellow, housey vibe just begging to be heard on the sound system at your favorite club.
