Konami announces location test for new version of pop'n music in Tokyo
scrmbl NewsroomJun 30th, 2025

Hot on the heels of the location test for the next version of beatmania IIDX, Konami has announced another BEMANI series location test, this time for long-running franchise pop'n music. This location will be taking place on 5-6 July 2025 at the Akihabara Tokyo Leisureland game center.

In order to participate in the location test, hopeful players must have a Konami ID and register in a lottery for a chance to play. Registration for the lottery is only open for a single day, until 16:59 JST on 1 July 2025 with winners being announced the same day. If you're in Tokyo and looking for a chance to play, you can find the lottery registration page here.

This test is a bit surprising as the pop'n music franchise has largely been on life support for a while now, and an attempt to refresh both the game and its cabinets back in 2020 failed spectacularly. There isn't much information about what to expect at this test, so there is absolutely a chance that they might be trying something new once again. It is a bit curious that they have not announce a subtitled for this newly testing version, which could be part of a soft-refresh for the franchise.

We'll surely find out more this weekend once the test begins.
