Former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida today took to Twitter to announce that the integration of Japan's My Number Card into Apple Wallet was now complete. With this announcement, iPhone users can import their physical My Number Cards into their digital wallet starting today.
The news follows discussions between the former Prime Minister and Apple CEO Tim Cook during Kishida's tenure, and marks Apple's first time expanding their Apple Wallet ID system outside of the United States.
Today National ID Card on iPhone launches in Japan. When I was in office, I exchanged views with Apple’s Tim Cook on the future of the digital society and the importance of ID CARD on mobile.— Thank you @Tim_cook and the Apple team for working closely to bring this to life!

While the functionality of My Number on iPhone is currently limited to administrative activities and authentication when collecting copies of public certificates, the Japanese government's Digital Agency additionally announced that it will gradually expand the functionality of the service. This includes using your Apple Wallet as your My Number Insurance Card, as well as identification for your age, address, and other capabilities.
The setup procedure for adding your My Number Card to Apple Wallet is available entirely in English and can be accessed from the Wallet application on iPhone. It's worth noting that for a connection to be made between the Wallet app and the Mynaportal app, the latter will need to be updated to the latest version.
