MotionRec is a game that we've had our eyes on for a long time now. Partially because of its charming but masterfully executed pixel art style, and mostly for its unique and innovative platforming gameplay. Now the title, which was created by members of the Japanese design company HANDSUM, is available for all to play via Steam courtesy of Japanese indie game publisher PLAYISM.
From a first view one might think this is just your typical platformer, but the magic comes into play with its “recording” and “playback” game mechanic. These functions have players recording their movements and playing them back to clear obstacles like long gaps, high walls, and more. It's easy to understand from your first play, but the puzzles incorporated throughout the levels will still provide players with plenty of challenges to overcome.

We've checked out the game at multiple events since TGS 2024, and even though this sudden release was a total surprise to us we're beyond excited to finally dig into the full game. It's also on sale through 11 November, 2025 for 10% off of it's already generous ¥1,280 price tag. If you're looking for something new, creative, and fun to play we can’t recommend it enough.
