In 2024 Hikaru Utada held their first tour in 6 years to celebrate 25 years since their major label debut, Science Fiction Tour 2024. During the course of the tour, 9 photographers captured their own unique views of the performer and those perspectives are being collected for a new photo book and accompanying gallery exhibition in Japan this March.

HIKARU UTADA SCIENCE FICTION TOUR 2024 NINE STORIES, which is named after a short story from novelist JD Salinger, is composed of visual perspectives collected across shows from 9 different cities during the tour. The contemporary artists who are participating in the book & exhibition include:

  • Kazuhei Kimura (Fukuoka performance)
  • Suzuki Chikashi (Aichi performance)
  • Mayumi Hosokura (Saitama performance)
  • Rinko Kawauchi (Miyagi performance)
  • Daido Moriyama (Tokyo performance)
  • John Yuyi (Taipei performance)
  • Wing Shya (Hong Kong performance)
  • Takashi Homma (Osaka performance)
  • Rika Noguchi (Kanagawa performance)

The photobook for NINE STORIES comes in two different configurations. Each photographer will have their own single 48 page book priced at ¥2200, while a complete set of all 9 books with an accompanying lenticular box will be available for ¥15,000. The books are available for preorder now from Hikaru Utada's official store, Amazon, and New Gallery Store. You can find more information on the books at the release's official website.

The gallery exhibition inspired by this collection of photographs will be held from March 7, 2025 until March 30, 2025 at New Gallery in Jimbocho, Tokyo. Original prints of select works will also be available for sale at the exhibition. More details can be found at the New Gallery exhibition website.
